Lake contaminated by leaking septic tanks and fertilisers

One of the most important wetland sites in East Surrey is being contaminated by fertilisers and leaking septic tanks.

Hedgecourt lake, popular for fishing and sailing, boasts a wide range of wildlife but is suffering from nutrient-rich silt and phosphate running into it from Felbridge water.

The trust, along with the Environment Agency and Natural England, is working to improve the situation and stop further damage.
