Murderer who attacked Police with hammer wins appeal to reduce his sentence

The Police Federation in Sussex along with the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, have criticised judges after a murderer who attacked officers with a hammer in Crawley has had his sentence reduced.

Jamshid Piruz

Jamshid Piruz was given a life with a minimum of 5 years, which has now been dropped to 3 after he won an appeal against his jail term.

Piruz who admitted to burglary, violence and two counts of GBH during his trial last year has previously served 6 years in prison in the Netherlands for locking a woman in a room and slitting her throat.

Matt Webb, Chairman of the area’s Police Federation says they’ll be seeking advice on what can be done in this situation.
