Woman in 40s found by Police in a garden in East Grinstead at 2am after being assaulted

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was found in the early hours of the morning in East Grinstead saying she had been assaulted.

It is believed she was dropped off by a taxi on Railway Approach just after midnight before ending up in a garden on Musgrave Avenue at 2am.

Officers are trying to piece together the September night as the woman in her 40s is unclear exactly what happened to her.

DC John Hord from the Safeguarding Team said: “We are still trying to piece together the movements of the woman once she left the taxi just after midnight. I would like to speak to anyone who is able to assist in piecing together her movements. The woman was wearing dark blue jeans, a blue shirt and pink Converse shoes.

“I am particularly interested in tracking down the driver of what the female describes as a White Austin Allegro. I am aware that this vehicle has not been made for many years so this car would have stood out in the area.

“I am also in interested in speaking to a man described as tanned with receding black hair which was longer, curled up at the back and spoke with a local accent. It is believed the man was wearing a wearing a dark jacket with writing down the side and dark trousers and wearing white trainers.”

Anyone with any information is asked to report it online quoting Operation Howden.
