Move elderly out of hospital to solve NHS crisis says Surrey’s leader

Elderly people need to be moved out of hospitals and into care closer to their homes to help tackle the NHS crisis says Surrey Council’s leader David Hodge.

In an interview with GetSurrey, the Conservative councillor says many older people are in hospital simply because there is nowhere for them to go.

He has called for more government investment in social care which would free up around 120,000 beds in the county.

It comes as Surrey’s cabinet approved cuts of almost £19million to its social care budget.
