Fraudster jailed after Surrey Trading Standards Joint Investigation

A convicted fraudster has been jailed.

Adam Craig Roberts pleaded guilty to charges after a joint Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards investigation.

34-year-old Roberts mislead people, many of them elderly, into buying home insulation and often charging four times the price available from a reputable company.

Despite having already been disqualified from being a company director, Roberts ran Eco Energy Advice Limited.  Sales staff cold-called residents, offering a no-obligation visit from a surveyor. It was sales staff who then turned up to the properties and carried out the inspections.  Heavy-handed sales tactics were also employed, with substantial discounts promised if they signed up there and then.

One man in his 80s from Surrey was quoted over £10,000 for work which has since been estimated as worth less than half that amount. Instead of improving his insulation, the works have made it worse.

Roberts was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
