Horley’s Mayor, Councillor David Powell has just completed a five week walk, trekking laps of the town’s recreation ground in Brighton Road.

The 85-year-old walked the equivalent of 165 miles, which is the same as the distance from Horley to the Menin Gate in Belgium.

Councillor Powell was inspired by the efforts of Captain Tom Moore, and wanted to make the journey to raise funds for the Royal British Legion’s headquarters in Albert Road, after it was gutted by fire in May.
