SWR train guard dispute finally ends with agreement

A long-running dispute over the role of train guards on South Western Railway ended.

SWR who run certain routes in the Susy area, had plans for drivers to operate the doors on new trains, instead of guards.

Now the union has accepted the change after the franchise guaranteed a guard would still be put on every passenger train.

The RMT union held 74 days of strikes between 2017 and 2020 which lead to 800 trains being cancelled on every strike day.
