Gatwick Passenger With Restricted Mobility Dies After Disembarking

A passenger with restricted mobility has died at Gatwick Airport after leaving an aircraft.

Gatwick said staff were helping to disembark three passengers with restricted mobility at the time.  An airport spokesman said the 82 year old man decided to leave the EasyJet plane rather than wait for staff to return, and fell while going up an escalator.  A number of EasyJet cabin crew provided medical assistance to the passenger whilst waiting for paramedics to arrive, however he sadly later passed away.

Gatwick Airport says that a formal investigation is under way and says that staff shortages were not a factor in this incident.
