Proclamation of the new King

The proclamation of the new King, Charles III will be read out in all countries and counties of the United Kingdom.

National proclamation takes places on Saturday 10 September. For details see The Royal Family website.

In Surrey, it will be read at Guildford Cathedral by His Honour Christopher Critchlow the High Sheriff of Surrey accompanied by Michael More-Molyneux the Lord-Lieutenant on Sunday 11 September from 11am to 1pm. Please visit the Guildford Cathedral website for details.

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s proclamation will be read by the Mayor, Cllr Frank Kelly at the Harlequin Theatre on Sunday 11 September at 4pm.

Those wishing to watch the borough’s proclamation in person are welcome to attend. Admittance will be on a first-come first-serve basis. Alternatively, you can view on the Council’s YouTube channel, or later on the Council’s website.

At 10.30am on the day of the national proclamation, the Town Hall’s Union Flag will be raised to full mast for the proclamation of the King, in line with national protocol. It will remain at full mast until 1pm the following day when Union Flags nationally can return to half-mast.

In Crawley, Crawley Borough Council will hold a local Proclamation ceremony following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, formally declaring the accession of the new sovereign King Charles III.

The reading of the Proclamation by the Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Jilly Hart, will take place at 2pm on Sunday 11 September in front of the Town Hall.

Members of the public and local businesses are invited to attend this historic occasion.

In Horley, Horley Town Council will be holding a separate local ceremony with a reading of the Proclamation of our New Sovereign at The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Gardens, Horley Recreation Ground this Sunday, 11 September 2022, at 7.00 pm.
The ceremony will be presided over by the Town Mayor and it will be open to members of the public. Members and staff of Horley Town Council will be in attendance – we would kindly ask that you assemble at the gardens for the ceremony which will start promptly at 7.00 pm.

In Oxted, The Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Councillor Jackie Wren, will read the local proclamation at 9am on Monday 12 September at the Council Offices in Oxted. This will be webcast live.

In Horsham, the local Proclamation for the Horsham District will take place at 3pm on Sunday 11 September at the Carfax Bandstand in Horsham. The Proclamation will be made by Horsham District Council Chairman, Cllr Kate Rowbottom.
