Oxted’s Anne Dickins Wins Team GB’s 100th Medal

Para-canoeist Anne Dickins from Oxted secured Team GB’s 100th Medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics by winning the Women’s KL3 Canoe Sprint Final in the Lagoa Stadium. Dickins put in a personal best performance as she crossed the line in 51.348 seconds just ahead of Australian Amanda Reynolds who recorded a time of 51.378.

Anne, sponsored by the Titsey Rotary Club, had a very different experience of the London 2012 as a Games Maker and she told Channel 4 TV how she felt after winning in Rio, “Four years ago in London I was wearing a games maker uniform, helping people to their seats or working in the Velodrome so to come here as an athlete and then to go on and win a medal and a gold medal, I just can’t believe this has happened.”
“There are a million reasons why I shouldn’t have had a go in a boat, I get sea sick, I’m an ex cyclist, I’m a working mum, you know all these things but I did and here I am!”

After her win and an appearance on Channel 4’s “The Last Leg” there is some talk online of a coming home parade when Anne returns to Oxted..
