Lingfield Man wanted for missing court appearances

Police are on the look-out for a man who has failed to attend court.

Joseph Guy Shaw, formerly of Lingfield Common Road in Lingfield, did not turn up to two court summons.

The 44-year-old was due to answer charges of burglary in Littlehampton and possession of a knife in West Grinstead.

Shaw is described as white, 5′ 8”, of medium build with short brown hair and brown eyes.

He is wanted for failing to appear and for failing to comply with bail conditions imposed on him.

Nursing Staff from Surrey & Sussex Celebrate with Royalty

Local nursing staff have been honoured at a reception at Buckingham Palace.

Fiona Allsop, Maria Padfield, Chris O’ Connor, Sandhya Blakey and Selina Chandler represented Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust at the event last week.

The reception was held in the presence of the Prince of Wales and the Countess of Wessex, and formed part of the NHS 70th birthday celebrations, recognising the outstanding work of frontline nurses from all across the UK.

Disadvantaged Young Anglers in Crawley given Funding boost

An Angling Academy in Crawley has been given a donation from Sussex Police.

The West Sussex and Surrey Angling Academy received £500 through the Police Property Act Fund which is made up of monies from confiscated property.

The Angling Academy will use the funds to replace life-saving buoyancy rings which were stolen from around the fishing lake in Broadfield Park.

The not-for profit organisation helps disadvantaged young people learn about and practice angling.

Surrey propose new regulations to protect the vulnerable

National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day was held at the weekend.

Under new regulations being proposed by Surrey County Council, taxi and private hire drivers will be required to complete Child Sexual Exploitation and safeguarding awareness training.  Existing drivers will have 12 months to complete the training and new drivers must complete it prior to being awarded a licence.

All eleven district and borough councils are in the process of approving the countywide policy and in addition Surrey County Council is also insisting drivers involved in the transport of children complete the training.

A Reigate Building Society Plans Big Merger

An independent building society which has been in Reigate for over 150 years has released details of a planned merger.

Holmesdale Building Society was founded in 1855 and only has one branch, based on Church Street.

It plans to merge with Skipton, the UK’s fourth largest building society.

The merger is expected to go ahead on 1st October, subject to the vote of eligible members in June.
