A new Surgery Centre has opened at East Surrey Hospital.

The Right Honourable Professor Lord Kakkar, a leading surgeon in the field of thromboembolic disease and cancer-associated thrombosis, opened the new Centre last week.  The Surgical Centre brings together expert surgical and specialist care for local people needing a wide range of day surgery.  It combines waiting and recovery areas and dedicated rooms for specialist pain procedures.  Existing rooms were reconfigured to create space for the new Centre.

It is anticipated that over 10,000 patients a year will be cared for by the Surgery Centre team both for day cases and appointments.

M23 Junctions 8 To 10 To Become A Smart Motorway

Plans are underway to upgrade parts of the M23 to an all lane smart motorway.

The proposals are for an 11 mile stretch of the M23 near Gatwick Airport between junction 8 near Merstham and junction 10 at Copthorne. The scheme will add further road space by converting the hard shoulder to a permanent running lane with additional traffic monitoring, emergency refuge areas and variable message signs. Highways England say the scheme is of local and national importance due to junction 9 being the main access road to and from Gatwick, and as a result safety, congestion and journey times are all key issues that need to be improved.

During the construction phase of the scheme roadworks will be needed on the M23 between junctions 8 and 10 with narrow lanes.

Public information exhibitions will be held on 29th and 30th September from 3 pm until 9 pm at Gatwick’s South Terminal arrivals on Level 2, and on 6th and 7th October at Nutfield Lodge also from 3 pm -9 pm.
