Crawley Town Pre Season News

Crawley Town suffered their first defeat of the pre-season campaign at the hands of Championship side Fulham on Saturday afternoon at the Broadfield Stadium.

Two first half goals from the Cottagers were enough to separate the two sides in a fairly even contest.

It was the first chance for fans to see the new-look Crawley team with nine new signings starting for John Gregory’s side.

Next up for the Reds is a home encounter on Wednesday with local rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

Horley Taxi Driver Drink-Drive

A Horley taxi driver was banned from driving after he pleaded guilty for speeding – he was almost double the drink drive limit.

Gary Verlander was caught at 89mph on the M23 at the end of June.

On being caught he was breathalysed.

He had 68 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres on his breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The 53 year old has been banned from driving for 17 months. He will also have to pay a £100 fine and a £20 victim surcharge.

Sussex Clampdown on FGM

Police are hoping to identify victims of female genital mutilation by raising awareness of the practice.

Along with the Border Force, Sussex Police will speak to passengers from countries where FGM is an issue over the summer holidays to see if medical attention is needed and to prosecute offenders.

Intelligence suggests that girls most at risk of FGM are taken back to their home country at the beginning of school holidays – this way their wounds heal before they return to the UK.

East Grinstead Car Crash

A 25 year old woman suffered serious injuries after she crashed into a telegraph pole last Friday morning (18th July).

Two young children were taken out of the Toyota Hi-Lux but the woman was trapped inside and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service had to rescue her.

The collision took place just south of East Grinstead near Ashwood Farm on West Hoathly Road.
