Gatwick runway closure caused chaos

Passengers travelling via Gatwick Airport faced delays, diversions and cancellations at the weekend after a small hole or ‘indent’ was discovered on the main runway.

For precautionary measures, the main runway was closed shortly before 8 o’clock Sunday evening whilst investigations were carried out.

Some flights were switched to the stand-in runaway with others diverting to Southampton.

At 10.30 that evening Gatwick Airport tweeted “Our main runway is now open and operating and we are working hard to get you on your way.”

A Third of Southern Rail Services Restored

Over a third of Southern train services will be restored to the timetable from Monday.  A temporary timetable was put in place on 11th July due to a high number of cancelled and delayed services, following unprecedented levels of staff sickness.  119 of the 341 cancelled trains will be restored to inner London services, almost all London Bridge peak trains, and an enhanced service to Southern’s West London line.

Southern has announced it will bring back the remaining train services to its timetable incrementally in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Southern Railway is yet to release information on its services during the RMT strike action next Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th September.

Can Wasps cause a sting in Crawley?

Crawley Wasps Ladies are back in action this Sunday.

They survived a tense game last week to win by 2 goals to 1 over Camden Town.

For most of the second half the Wasps played with just 10 on the pitch after Roseanne Fine was dismissed for choice words aimed at the referee.

This weekend they welcome Carshalton Athletic to Oakwood FC in Tinsley Lane, Crawley.  Kick-off is 2pm.
