Redhill Memorial Park to Re-open

Memorial Park in Redhill will reopen this weekend.

It follows a £1.5 million facelift as part of the wider Redhill regeneration.

Facilities include a new cafe pavillion and toilets; bigger children’s play area, a ‘sports zone’ including tennis courts and gym equipment; as well as new landscaping features.

The Park reopens on Saturday.

South East in Bloom

Horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation has been recognised in the local area.

The South & South East in Bloom Competition acknowledged Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Horley Town Council.

Reigate and Banstead received four awards – a Gold for Priory Park; Silver Gilt for Lady Neville Park and Redstone Cemetery, and SIlver for Reigate Garden of Rest.

Horley Town was awarded Silver Gilt for Horley Town Centre and Horley Recreation Ground.

Cyclist Death in Horsham

A cyclist was found dead in Horsham at the weekend.

Despite the efforts of the air ambulance, the 53 year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of the public, including an off-duty doctor, attempted to resuscitate the cyclist after finding him collapsed in the road shortly after 10 o’clock Saturday morning.

Collision in Crawley

A woman had to be cut from her car following a collision in Crawley.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service used hydraulic rescue equipment to release the woman.

A man, who was in a second car, was freed from his vehicle by ambulance paramedics.

Both were taken to hospital following the incident on Balcombe Road Saturday afternoon.

Oxted Youth Sentenced for Murder

A 17-year-old boy who pleaded guilty to the murder of a girl at his home in Oxted has been sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in jail.

The boy, who was 16-years-old at the time of the offence, had known Elizabeth Rose Thomas for several months before her murder.

He pleaded guilty to stabbing her last January at Guildford Crown Court on September 9th.
