Crawley Free School To Close

Discovery New School To Close

MP Henry Smith has expressed his disappointment at the Department for Education’s decision to close Discovery New School in Crawley from next April.  He was particularly concerned by the failure of management and the lack of support

Parents are being told there are places ready for them at other good schools nearby.

West Sussex County Council says there will be minimum upheaval for pupils currently attending Discovery New School.
It’ll shut next April because it’s failed to improve after being put in special measures.

National Fire Strikes in Surrey

National Fire Strikes This Weekend to Affect Surrey

National fire strikes will take place this weekend because of a dispute between central Government and the Fire Brigades’ Union over proposed changes to firefighters’ pensions.

The strikes will happen from 6pm to 10pm this evening (Friday 13th Dec) and 6pm to 10pm tomorrow (Sat 14th Dec).

SGI and non-striking firefighters will crew as many engines as they can on the day. However, there will be fewer fire engines than normal in Sussex and Surrey, so it’s important for local residents to take extra care.
