Lord Nelson’s London Arrival

Susy Radio’s Natalie Osborne and Chris Spring returned from an epic sea voyage on Friday. It was the second voyage in a year for Natalie who had been on the crew of the Lord Nelson on her sail from New Zealand to Argentina via Cape Horn. Natalie and Chris joined the ship on her final leg home from Canada to London.

The original plan was to sail via Iceland, but volcanic activity forced a diversion via the Azores. The change in route meant that the ship arrived early.

Natalie told Susy News about the Lord Nelson’s voyage and her feelings as she sailed up the Thames:

Woodhatch Cash Machine Theft

The Texaco petrol station in Woodhatch was the scene of a daring raid in the early hours of last Friday morning.

Thieves driving a white van stole a cash machine outside the station in Dovers Green Road.

It’s not yet known how much money the ATM contained at the time of the theft.

Detectives from East Surrey CID are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area between midnight and 1am on Friday last.

[Anyone who has information on this offence is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45140078954. The independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.]

Weekend Football

In football, it was another poor league one performance as Crawley Town went down 2 nil at Preston.

Not much better in the Ryman League, where Redhill lost 1 nil at home to Walton Casuals, while Three Bridges lost 1 nil at Walton and Hersham. And it was a massive 4 nil home defeat for East Grinstead who were hosting Sittingbourne.

On a more positive note, South Park managed a 2 all home draw against Chipstead and Merstham had a good away performance drawing 3 all at Hythe.

Sussex Road Repairs

Sussex Residents have given the thumbs-up to repairs carried out on their roads in August.

West Sussex County Council’s Better Roads Programme is targeting rural and residential roads across the county most in need of repair.

Seventy-nine locations were improved and made safer by the County Council’s highways contractors during August and the Council received a number of emails from residents satisfied with the job done.

One resident noted that for nearly 30 years he’d watched council workmen coming every few months to repair the potholes in New Road and every time he’d say, ‘Why don’t they do a proper job?’

He added “Well, at last they have and I want to thank you for it.”

Horsham Jewellery Robberies

Two houses near Horsham were broken into in the space of two days and a large amount of jewellery was stolen.

The first burglary happened late Tuesday morning (16 September) at a home in Dutchells Copse, Horsham, when a quantity of gold jewellery was stolen.

On Wednesday morning, (17 September) a home in College Road, Southwater, was burgled and more gold jewellery and cash was taken.

In total more than £40,000 worth of jewellery was stolen at the two properties.

Sussex Police said that in each case the intruders smashed their way into the homes and escaped with gold jewellery.

They believe the burglaries could be linked, and would appreciate hearing from anyone who was in the area at the time.
