Football Update

In League 2, Crawley Town drew 2 all at home to Northampton Town on Saturday.  Josh Doherty scored his first goal for Crawley with a stoppage time equaliser.

East Grinstead lost their Isthmian South East Division match 3-1 at home to Ashford United.  In the South Central Division, South Park drew 3-3 at home to Ashford Town.

Redhill lost 1-0 away to Sheerwater in the Combined Counties Premier Division.

It was better news for our local teams in the Southern Combination Football League; Horley Town won 3-1 at home to Langney Wanderers and Lingfield won 3-1 away to Hassocks.

Horsham are out of the FA Cup.  The Hornets lost 2-0 in their second qualifying round tie against National League South side, Dartford.

Crawley: Collision Between Pedestrian And Car

A 15 year old girl was hit by a car in Crawley on Tuesday afternoon.

The collision occurred at a pedestrian crossing near the Coaching Halt pub in Balcombe Road at 4.15 pm.  The driver of a gold-coloured Volkswagen estate initially stopped, but drove away prior to the arrival of the emergency services. The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance where she was treated for minor injuries. 

A 48 year old man from Handcross later attended Crawley police station and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop after a road accident.  He has since been released under investigation.  

Affordable Housing Boost For Tandridge District and East Grinstead Areas

Tandridge District Council’s Housing Committee has announced plans for over a hundred more affordable homes for local residents on the Council Housing Register. 

The Committee which met last week, agreed to seek grant funding from Homes England to help fund the Council’s new homes programme. The homes within the programme include developments at Warlingham, Hurst Green, and Caterham with further sites yet to be identified.  

Meanwhile Mid Sussex District Council has approved the sale of land at Blackwell Farm Road in East Grinstead for 10 new homes for local people in housing need. 

The Council’s cabinet agreed to sell the land to the Guinness Partnership subject to being granted planning permission. The Guinness Partnership works in local authority areas across England to provide homes for rent at lower prices.

Former Police Officer denies rape charges.

A former police officer has denied seven charges of rape, including one while he was on duty.

64 year old Derek Seekings from Farnborough retired from Surrey Police in 2005.

He appeared at Guilford Crown Court accused of seven rapes of a woman in Surrey between 1994 and 2000.

He is due to stand trial at Lewes Crown Court on 11 May.

Witnesses appeal to incident in Crawley town centre

Police are looking for witnesses after a violent incident took place in a restaurant in Crawley.

Four men entered the Red Peri Peri restaurant on the evening of September 7th. 

There was an altercation between staff and the men where items were thrown. This continued outside the premises with fighting in the High Street.

No arrests have been made but anybody with information should call Sussex Police on 101.
