Football Update

In League 2, Crawley Town drew 1-1 at home to Macclesfield on Saturday.  Lewis Young scored his first goal of the season, equalising in the 84th minute.

It was a huge game for Merstham in their Bostik Premier Division match away to Tonbridge Angels.  Merstham won 1-0 and move up to third place in the table.

Horsham move up to second place in the Bostik South East Division, after winning 3-0 away to Whitstable.  East Grinstead won 2-1 at home to Hastings United, and Three Bridges lost 5-1 at home to Herne Bay.

South Park lost 4-0 in their Bostik South Central Division match against Hanwell Town.

In the Combined Counties Premier Division, Horley Town won 5-0 at home to Hanworth Villa. And it was three defeats in a row for Redhill who lost 2-1 at home to Badshot Lea.

Horley Recreation Ground: New Café And Pavilion

Plans to build a new café and pavilion at Horley Recreation Ground have moved a step forward.  

Horley Town Council has approved the appointment of a contractor to build the café, subject to funding being secured.  The expected total cost of the project is £603,000. Borrowing approval of up to £500,000 will be sought from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.  A further £130,000 will be funded from the Town Council’s reserves.

Those interested in operating a café concession lease can make an expression of interest by the 15th March. The café is expected to be ready for operation later this year.  

Council Tax Increase For The Tandridge Area

Council tax in the Tandridge District will increase by 3.95% for a Band D property in 2019/20.  

Tandridge District Council has agreed a council tax increase of 2.99% for properties in Band D for its share of the council tax for the next financial year.  Surrey County Council has also agreed an overall council tax rise, including social care, of 2.99%, while the Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner agreed an increase of 10.15%.  This year’s total band D Council Tax will be £1930.05 an increase of 3.9% for these three services. However this Band D figure does not include parish precepts, which will vary across the district. Therefore the total average increase across the district including parish precepts is 3.95% for Band D.

Football Update

In League 2 it was a goalless draw for Crawley Town in their away match with Northampton Town on Saturday.

In the Bostik Premier Division, Merstham are in 4th place after winning 2-1 at home to Corinthian Casuals.

Horsham are in 4th place in the Bostik South East division winning 2-0 at home to Sussex neighbours, Three Bridges.  East Grinstead lost 2-1 away to Sittingbourne.

South Park lost their Bostik South Central division match 1-0 away to Uxbridge.

Redhill slip to 7th place in the Combined Counties Premier Division after losing 1-0 at home to Abbey Rangers.  Horley Town won 2-0 away to Banstead.

Little Free Libraries Arrive In Reigate And Redhill

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council has installed Little Free Libraries into five community green spaces.  

The aim is to help make literature easily available to residents. The colourful miniature libraries are the size of dolls houses and hold about 20 books each.  They have been installed in five locations across the borough, Redhill Memorial Park, Lady Neville Park in Banstead, Earlswood Lakes, and at New Pond Farm Allotment  and Priory Park in Reigate. All five libraries hold a variety of books across all genres and are suitable for all ages. The books currently occupying the little libraries have been donated by borough residents and Redhill-based charity Stripey Stork.  

Little Free Library is a non-profit organisation; there are are more than 75,000 of these libraries in 88 countries.
