The development of new housing in Crawley has moved a step closer after a grant application submitted by the Borough Council worth over £6 million has been given approval from the government.

The money being released by Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund will be used to help unlock another 620 new homes in the town.

Telford Place in the town centre will receive £2m to bring forward development while £4.4m will go towards infrastructure that enables new homes to be built in Forge Wood, Crawley’s newest neighbourhood.

Surrey’s Police and Crime Commissioner has spoken about the importance of reporting thefts from vans.  Police figures show a 25-26% increase in thefts from vans across the country with 62 tool thefts a day.  Police and Crime Commissioner, David Munro told Susy Radio’s Neil Munday that he has accountability meetings with the Chief Constable and the subject is top of the agenda.  He said Surrey Police look at patterns based on reporting.

David Munro also said that 40% of vehicle thefts occur because vans haven’t been kept secure.   Precautions such as keeping the van locked, backing it up against a wall, and not storing tools in vans overnight can make a difference. He has also spoken about prevention and has issued further advice.

The young man tragically stabbed and killed in Crawley on Thursday has been formally identified as 24 year old Arnold Potter from Maidenbower.  A teenager has since been charged with his murder.

Sussex Police would like to hear from anyone with any information.

Two men are wanted in connection with three robberies in East Surrey.

Within the space of three days last week, robberies and attempted robberies were carried out at Betchley Butchers in Redhill, Capel Newsagents in Dorking and Headley Village Stores in Epsom.

Police are keen to speak with 35-year-old Joseph Barnes from Dorking and 33-year-old Chaz Eastmond-Roberts from Guildford.

Barnes is described as white, medium build with multiple tattoos of writing on the right side of his neck and arms.

Eastmond-Roberts is described as white, slim build, with a tattoo in his lower-back of a dragon, and a tribal pattern on his left leg.
