Lingfield To Host Part of BBC Children In Need Appeal’s Rickshaw Challenge

Lingfield will host part of the BBC Children in Need Appeal’s Rickshaw Challenge.

The One Show features the event each year which is a major fundraiser for the appeal.  The Rickshaw Challenge will travel through the Tandridge district before arriving in Lingfield around 7 pm on Saturday 10th November. The One Show presenter, Matt Baker, will pedal alongside six young riders who have all been supported by BBC Children In Need funded projects.  The team will start at Calais and travel through Kent before heading to the Lingfield and Dormansland Centre on the High Street.

Their progress will be broadcast on The One Show throughout the week.

Violent Burglary In Bewbush In Crawley

A violent burglary took place in Bewbush in Crawley on Monday night.  

Police were called to Jewel Walk to a report that two people had been attacked with a baseball bat.  Three men forced their way into the property and demanded money before leaving empty handed. A 29 year old man was taken to hospital with facial injuries and a cut to his head. A 64 year old woman received bruising to her leg and face.  

One of the men was described as black, over 6 feet tall, wearing all black and a a black leather mask and gloves. The second was black, slim, also wearing black with the same type of mask, and wearing white latex surgical gloves. The third man was white and stockier than the other two.  He was wearing a black woollen balaclava and white latex surgical gloves.

Anyone with information should contact Sussex police online quoting serial 1355 on 15/10.

Football Update

Crawley Town are in 10th place in League 2 after losing 3-1 away to Colchester United on Saturday.

Merstham FC gained a point in their Bostik Premier Division match after a 1-1 draw at home to Bishop’s Stortford.

It was non league day on Saturday which saw many of our local teams competing in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round.  Horsham are through to the next round winning 3-1 at home to Ware.  East Grinstead Town are also through winning their away match 1-0 against Great Wakering Rovers.  It was bad news for South Park who are out of the Trophy losing 5-1 away to Berkhampsted.  Three Bridges are also out losing 1-0 at home to Molesey FC.

There was disappointment too for Redhill FC who are out of the first round proper of the FA Vase losing 3-2 at home to Peacehaven and Telscombe.

Burns Awareness Day: Experts Warn Of The Dangers Of Preventable Burns Injuries

Burns specialists at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead are warning about the dangers of preventable burns injuries at home.

The warning comes ahead of this year’s national Burns Awareness Day on Wednesday on finding a year-on-year increase in referrals to its paediatric burns unit.  Almost half of the children admitted with burns during the last year were treated for scalds; the majority of which happened in the child’s own home.

Charitable Status for Local Not-For-Profit Venture

A local, not for profit organisation which supplies reusable drinks containers, has been granted charitable status.  

Clare Thomson from Outwood and a former teacher at Reigate College, founded WACUP with the aim to reduce the amount of plastic pollution in our oceans. WACUP bottles are made from aluminium and proceeds from the sale of these go back into funding education projects in Asia. These aim to educate people to make small changes in lifestyle to make a difference to the planet.  Bottles will be sent to schools in the most affected areas such as Thailand and Vietnam. Clare visited the Susy Radio studio and spoke with Chrissy Muir.

Aluminium drinking bottle
