Surrey County Council Presses For Investment In Key Rail Line To London

Surrey County Council has backed a campaign to press for investment on the Brighton mainline rail service.  

The Council has joined the Brighton Mainline Alliance; a group of organisations and businesses spearheaded by the Coast to Capital local enterprise partnership.  

East Croydon station is one of the alliance’s targets for investment to provide two extra platforms. Other targets include an extra platform at Reigate Station to allow Thameslink services to run there.

The Brighton line  passes through East Surrey on its way to London and serves, Salfords, Horley, Redhill and Merstham as well as Gatwick Airport.

Work Begins On New Stadium For Horsham FC

Horsham Football Club has begun work on its new stadium at Hop Oast on the outskirts of the town.  

The Hornets currently share with Lancing FC at the Sussex County Football Association in Culver Road.

In the last month the site has been cleared, a pond extension has been dug and ballstop netting has been installed in the driving range. The next stage is to lay foundations for the car park and to level the ground for both pitches once the local authority has approved the work carried out so far.

Reminder To Register To Vote In Local Elections

Reigate and Banstead, and Tandridge District Councils have reminded residents to register to vote in time for the local elections in May.  

Anyone who wants to vote and have their say on 3rd May must be on the electoral register.  The deadline to register is Tuesday 17th April. The local elections select councillors who are responsible for making decisions on running services in the local area.  These include planning, parks, leisure, and housing.

Residents can apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

94-year-old robbed in Crawley distraction burglary

An elderly Crawley man has had his wallet and £200 stolen in a distraction burglary at his flat.

The 94-year-old found they had gone after answering the door on Thursday afternoon to a man claiming he needed to turn off the water.

People are being urged to check the identification of anyone saying they are from a utility company.
