West Sussex schools may have to cut staff and subjects

Schools in West Sussex are warning they may have to cut staff numbers and subject choices due to a lack of money.

Head teachers are writing to parents explaining analysis from the Institute for Fiscal Studies says government plans would mean “a real-terms cut of 2.8% in per-pupil funding between 2016 and 2022.”

Before the election, governors in the county considered the first ever strike due to budget concerns.

Care home in Merstham blames Brexit as a reason for closing

A care home in Merstham has blamed Brexit as one of the reasons it’s closing down.

Chaldon Rise, run by Care Unlimited, looked after adults with dementia and learning disabilities since 1987 but has now shut down due to a lack of funding.

It says the vote to leave the EU and the advanced English speaking course for foreign workers has meant there’s a lack of nurses entering the profession.  It also adds that recruiting is expensive and agencies have pushed staff costs to an unsustainable level.
