Robbery at knifepoint in Lingfield

A man has been robbed at knifepoint in a pub carpark in Lingfield.

It happened around 7 pm last Wednesday outside The Star Inn on Church Road when two men threatened the victim before taking his car keys and leaving him with a cut on his thumb.

It’s believed the attackers were driving a blue Vauxhall Corsa with two women also inside.

Tilgate Nature Centre

A new Madagascan Zone will open at Tilgate Nature Centre on Saturday.  

Some of the new facilities include a new aviary and reptile huts.  Some surprise animals will be revealed on the day and there will be special talks and feeds with the new animals.  

Crawley Borough Council will be there, raising money to help support the people and animals of Madagascar and to support conservation on the island.

Surrey Trading Standards Officers Seize Illegal Skin Products

Trading standards officers in Surrey have seized hundreds of illegal skin lightening products containing an ingredient linked to cancer.

They have confiscated two consignments of potentially dangerous cosmetics after they were brought into the country from Nigeria through Heathrow Airport.  The products were seized because they contain the skin bleaching ingredient hydroquinone which is banned in Britain and across the European Union.

The cosmetics were destined for importers in South London but they were intercepted at Heathrow by customs officials before being sent to a trading standards inspection point in Surrey.

Football Update

Merstham lost their Ryman Premier League match 2-1 at home to Worthing on Tuesday evening.

Three Bridges are second from bottom in the Ryman South Division after losing 4-1 at home to Greenwich Borough.  South Park remain in 10th place after losing 3-0 away to Dorking Wanderers.  

In the Combined Counties Division One, Redhill beat South Park Reserves 7-0.  The Lobsters are in second place and this result will put them in a confident mood for Saturday’s match against league leaders, Banstead Athletic.

New Chief Executive appointed for Crawley

Crawley Borough Council has appointed a new Chief Executive.

Natalie Brahma-Pearl’s appointment was ratified at an Extraordinary Meeting of the Full Council last week.

She is currently the Director of Community Services at Horsham District Council.

Peter Browning will remain as Acting Chief Executive until Natalie takes up her new post.
