Anti-drilling campaigners vow to fight on

Campaigners in Mole Valley have pledged to continue their fight against oil drilling in Leith Valley, despite a court order to remove their protest camp.

They’ve been opposing plans by Europa Oil and Gas since 2009 and say “this is not the end of the story.”

If consent is given by the Council, drilling could begin in Autumn this year.

Single Vehicle Collision in Oxted

A single vehicle collision took place last week near Tandridge Golf Club on the A25 in Oxted.  

Police officers were called on Wednesday morning following the collision which involved a grey Toyota Avensis.  A man in his 60s was taken to hospital with serious injuries.  Officers are carrying out enquiries to determine the circumstances of the incident.

Merstham Alcohol Thief Gets Six Months Behind Bars

A man from Merstham has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing a large quantity of alcohol from the Toby Carvery in Redhill.  Thirty two year old Shane O’Doherty pleaded guilty to the offence at Guildford Magistrates Court last week.  

O’Doherty had been seen hanging around the cellar at the restaurant on Saturday 21st January.  He returned the following day, entered the cellar, and filled up a carrier bag with a number of spirits.

Last Tuesday, staff called police after he was again seen at the carvery, drinking at the bar.  He was then arrested on suspicion of burglary and was subsequently charged.

Football Update

Crawley lost 2-1 in their League 2 away match to Notts County on Saturday.

In the Ryman Premier Division, Merstham won 4-0 away to AFC Sudbury.  In the Ryman South, Horsham celebrated seven games unbeaten after a 1-1 draw at home to East Grinstead.  South Park won 4-1 away to Godalming Town and Three Bridges remain second from bottom after losing 3-1 at home to Faversham Town.

Elsewhere Redhill won 2-0 at Kiln Brow against Staines Lammas. Redhill remain in second place in the Combined Counties Division One, one point behind Banstead Athletic.  Horley Town lost 3-0 away to Camberley Town.
