East Grinstead Road Altercation

Sussex Police are looking for witnesses to an altercation between two drivers on the A22 in East Grinstead.

At around 5.30pm on Wednesday (2 March), a white Volkswagen Golf and a blue Toyota Celica came to a sudden stop on the one way system near the railway station, opposite the Esso garage

It’s alleged that one of the drivers got out and was struck by the other car.

Police are keen to talk to anyone who witnessed what happened prior to the cars coming to a stop.

Crawley Town Loan Spell Ends

Crawley Town Football Club’s midfielder, Chris Atkinson has returned to parent club, Crewe Alexandra at the end of his two-month loan spell with the Reds.

Chris made seven appearances including five starts for the Reds after making his debut against Notts County on 16th January.

Football Update

In League 2, Shaun Miller scored on his return from suspension to help Morecambe earn a 1 all draw at Crawley Town.

Matt Harrold had earlier scored for the Reds who had to be content with sharing the points.

In the Ryman league, Staines town beat Merstham 2 nil while Three Bridges had a good afternoon with a 2 – 1 away win at Molesey. East Grinstead suffered a loss by 2 goals to 1 at Sittingbourne while South Park scored the only goal in their victory against Carshalton Athletic.

Elsewhere, Horley Town enjoyed a good 3 – 0 win against AFC Hayes while Dorking were at the receiving end of a 6 – nil drubbing by Abbey Rangers.

Horsham Robberies

A woman was robbed and a man was the victim of an attempted robbery in Horsham last Monday (29 Feb)

Around 4pm a man sitting near the skate park near Horsham hospital was threatened with a baton and asked to hand over his watch. He refused and kicked the attacker who ran off towards the station.

Around half an hour later a student had her bag stolen after being pushed by a man in the alley near Horsham fire station. The man then ran off via Hurst Road towards the railway station.

A train awaiting departure was delayed and searched but to no avail.

Police think the attacks are linked to the same suspect – a man of middle eastern appearance in his 20s wearing a dark hooded anorak, jogging bottoms and a camouflage patterned bandana on his face.

New Heart Centre at East Surrey Hospital

A new cardiac centre has been opened at the East Surrey Hospital.

The new Surrey and Sussex Heart Centre was opened by a former patient – Lord Astor of Hever – on Thursday the 25th of February

The new Centre brings together expert cardiology care for local people with a suite of specialist technology to help treat patients with heart conditions or who have experienced a heart attack.

Each year over 1,600 patients are cared for by the team – as inpatients and day cases with many thousands also in follow-up appointments in our out-patient clinics.

Lord Astor, who was cared for by the cardiology team at East Surrey Hospital following a heart attack in 2008, said he was “delighted to be asked to open the new Centre. “
