Recycling in Surrey could save taxpayers millions

Around £4 million could be saved by taxpayers in Surrey if they recycled more.

That is the finding of an analysis into waste in the County.

10,500 tonnes of unwanted clothes and textiles were discarded last year which could have been reused or recycled.

More than £1 million a year is spent collecting and disposing the items in Surrey.  The County is also missing out on around £3 million a year which could be raised through recycling the products.

Clothes for recycling can be torn or tatty, as long as they’re clean and dry.

This follows a parking consultation, in which the new restrictions were supported by the majority of residents and businesses.

Until the 29th of June, anyone parking illegally will not be ticketed but will receive warnings on the vehicles as well as the details of two car parks which can be used for free in the evenings.

After this date, transgressors will be subject to fines of up to £70.
