Election

It was a long night for General Election candidates in the Susy Area with the final results not being known until just after 5am
In Surrey East, Sam Gyimah was returned with a majority of nearly 23,000 over second placed UKIP candidate Helena Windsor.

Meanwhile in Reigate, Crispin Blunt was victorious with a majority of over 22,000 votes over his nearest rival Joseph Fox of UKIP

And in Crawley, despite a strong challenge from Labour’s Chris Oxlade, Henry Smith held on to his seat for the Conservatives with a majority of just over six thousand.

The results of local council elections being run alongside the general election may not be fully known until tomorrow and we’ll bring you these results on Monday.

Crawley Drugs Arrest

A 32-year-old man from Crawley has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and money laundering.

This is part of a continued crackdown on organised crime in the South East by Sussex Police and the Regional Serious Crime Squad

No futher details are available at this time and the man was bailed until 29 June.

Power Tools Stolen in Reigate

Appeals are ongoing for information relating to a burglary in Reigate.

Power tools were taken during the incident at a property on Lesbourne Road last month.

Detectives are keen to hear from a man featured in CCTV footage.

Football: Reds Relegated; Merstham Promoted

After three years in the third tier of football, Crawley Town have been relegated to League Two.

They lost at home to Coventry CIty by 2 goals to 1.  The Reds had taken the lead in the 47th minute through a header by Pogba.

However two goals in the last 15 minutes by the visitors put an end to their hopes of taking three points from the must-win game.

In contrast there was good news for Merstham FC who beat Folkstone Invicta away by three goals to nil to win the Ryman League Division One South Play-off final and promotion to the Ryman Premier League.

Crawley residents warned of burglaries targeting gold

Residents are being reminded to keep their homes secure after a spate of burglaries in Crawley.

Gold jewellery, cash and electrical items are among the items stolen during 11 burglaries across the town.

Detectives believe the break-ins are linked and urge witnesses to come forward.

High performance vehicles have been sighted in the vicinity of roads where the burglaries occurred, including a white Ford Focus ST.

Over the past eight weeks there have been burglaries in Pound Hill, West Green, Northgate, and Three Bridges.

Thieves have been targeting jewellery and gold items in particular, often leaving other less valuable items behind.
