Football Update

In League 2, Crawley Town are still searching for their first league win of the new season.  The Reds lost 1-0 away to Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon.

Formerly the Ryman League, the newly named Bostik League started the new season on Saturday.  In the Premier Division Merstham got off to a good start winning 4-1 at home to Wingate and Finchley.  Newly promoted Dorking Wanderers lost 1-0 away to Leiston.

In the Bostik League South, South Park won 4-0 away to Shoreham.  Horsham lost 2-1 away to Molesey and East Grinstead Town also lost 4-2 away to Guernsey FC.

Three Bridges won their first home match 2-1 to AFC Uckfield in the Southern Combination Premier League.

It wasn’t such good news for our two local teams in the Combined Counties Premier League;  Redhill lost 2-1 to Godalming Town at Kiln Brow, and Horley Town 2-0 away to AFC Hayes.

Cheltenham Town is “a massive game” for Crawley says Harrold

Crawley Town is away to Cheltenham Town tomorrow.

Striker Matt Harrold has described it as a “massive game,” as the Red look for their first win after starting the season with a loss against Port Vale and then losing to Birmingham City on Tuesday.

While midfielder Jimmy Smith is back in training following a torn thigh muscle which meant missing the start of the season.

Kick-off is at 3 pm.

Reds need to show they can put on a good performance against Birmingham City says Kewell

Crawley Town plays Birmingham City away at St. Andrew’s later.

Coach Harry Kewell says despite the Reds being the underdogs, he wants the team to go there and express itself and show fans they can put on a good performance.

He’ll be hoping a good result will ease the pain of Crawley starting their season with a 3 – 1 defeat to Port Vale on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 7:45pm

Football Update

In League 2, Crawley Town’s opening game of the season ended in a 3-1 defeat to Port Vale on Saturday at the Checkatrade Stadium. The Reds travel to the Midlands tomorrow to face Birmingham City.

It was good news for our local teams in the FA Cup extra preliminary qualifying round.  Redhill FC won 8-1 away to Hailsham and now take on Ashford United in the preliminary round.  Three Bridges won 2-0 away to Horsham YMCA and will meet Greenwich Borough in the next round on 19th August.  Horley Town are also through to the next round after winning 5-1 at home to Raynes Park Vale.

Crawley begin League campaign against Port Vale

Crawley Town begin their League Two campaign tomorrow at home against Port Vale, in what will be new head coach Harry Kewall’s first league game in charge of the Reds.

Speaking on BBC 5live he says he’s excited and enthusiastic about the upcoming season and insists the management feels the right fit for him.

Looking ahead to what the team can achieve he says “I always dream big and that’s the only way you can live.”

Kick-off is at 3pm.
