A special guest attended the Run Reigate event in Priory Park yesterday.

Dame Kelly Holmes supported the event by starting races, awarding prizes and handing out medals.  Run Reigate, a fundraising event to help local charity partners, comprised a half marathon, 10K race and a kids’ race.  Runners could support some of the partner charities or choose their own special cause.

The amount raised for charity this year has yet to be announced but the event organisers hope that the total raised since the event started, will reach half a million pounds.

Oxted’s Anne Dickins Wins Team GB’s 100th Medal

Para-canoeist Anne Dickins from Oxted secured Team GB’s 100th Medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics by winning the Women’s KL3 Canoe Sprint Final in the Lagoa Stadium. Dickins put in a personal best performance as she crossed the line in 51.348 seconds just ahead of Australian Amanda Reynolds who recorded a time of 51.378.

Anne, sponsored by the Titsey Rotary Club, had a very different experience of the London 2012 as a Games Maker and she told Channel 4 TV how she felt after winning in Rio, “Four years ago in London I was wearing a games maker uniform, helping people to their seats or working in the Velodrome so to come here as an athlete and then to go on and win a medal and a gold medal, I just can’t believe this has happened.”
“There are a million reasons why I shouldn’t have had a go in a boat, I get sea sick, I’m an ex cyclist, I’m a working mum, you know all these things but I did and here I am!”

After her win and an appearance on Channel 4’s “The Last Leg” there is some talk online of a coming home parade when Anne returns to Oxted..

Crawley Playground Set To Be An Adventure For Children

A new adventure playground is set to put smiles on the faces of children in Crawley.

The facilities at Cherry Lane are being completely transformed with a climbing zone in the trees, a large sand and water play area and a tunnel-based underground zone.

It is hoped the focus of play will return to a ‘back-to-basics’ feel with digging in mud, outdoor cooking using a fire pit and den building.

The work is due to be completed by Easter next year.

London Corinthians 0 – Crawley Wasps 1

Crawley Wasps secured an away win at London Corinthians.

Shinih Tuazon beat the goalkeeper at her near post in the second half, aided by an accurate long pass from Crawley’s outfielder Natalie Stephenson who this game was deputising as goalkeeper.

Corinthians did have chances of their own but the Wasps held on to secure a fourth victory, and second clean sheet, in a row in the London and South East Regional Women’s Football League.
