Football Update

Crawley Town extended their fine home record with a narrow win over Cambridge. Matt Harrold’s fifth goal of the season was the decisive moment as he fired in from close range.

With seven wins out of their last eight home league games, The Reds rise to 13th in League Two.

In the Ryman League, Merstham drew 2 all with Grays Athletic, while Three Bridges shaded a 3 – 2 away win at Chatham. East Grinstead lost by one goal to nil at home to Folkestone Invicta, while the match between South Park and Faversham Town was postponed.

Football Update

Portsmouth enjoyed a comprehensive 3 – nil victory over Crawley Town on Saturday and maintained their challenge for promotion from League Two.

Meanwhile in the Ryman league, Lewes’ home match against Merstham was postponed as was the local derby between Three Bridges and South Park.

The only other local result this weekend saw East Grinstead succumb to a 3 – 1 away defeat by Guernsey.

Football Update

Rhys Murphy scored twice against his former side to give Crawley Town a 3 – 2 victory against League 2 strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge.

In the Ryman league it ended 2 all in Merstham’s home game against Tonbridge Angels while South Park enjoyed a 3 – 2 win at Walton and Hersham.

Elsewhere East Grinstead lost 1 – nil at Faversham Town while Three Bridges went down 1 – nil at Folkestone

Sussex Cricket News

Sussex wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Brown has signed a new contract with the club and been named as vice-captain to all-rounder Luke Wright.

He’ll now remain at Hove until the end of the 2018 season.

Crawley born Brown came through Sussex’s youth set-up and made his first-class debut in 2007.

He had a fine season with the bat in 2015, scoring one thousand and thirty one Championship runs at an average of 44.82 and hitting four centuries.

Mark Davis, who was appointed as Sussex head coach last month,described Brown as a “natural leader”.

Football Update

There was no League 2 action on Saturday due to the FA Cup.

In the Ryman League, Merstham lost 3 – 1 in their match with Kingstonian at Kingsmeadow. while East Grinstead recorded a comfortable 4 – nil home win against Walton & Hersham. South Park beat Dorking Wanderers 2 – nil at home but Three Bridges suffered a narrow 1 – nil home defeat to Corinthian Casuals.

Elsewhere, it was a goalless draw at Kiln Brow in Redhill’s match with AFC Hayes and goals galore with honours even at 3 all in South Park’s away match at Ashford Town.
