Crawley Town Pre Season

Steve Clarke brings his Reading squad to the Checkatrade.com Stadium tonight (Monday July 27) for a pre-season friendly, kick off 7.45pm.

It’s the third of a trio of fixtures against Championship opposition for Mark Yates’ new-look side.

Last Wednesday The Reds lost 3-0 to Championship side Brighton friendly in front of a 2,200 crowd at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

First-half goals from Dale Stephens, Tomer Hemed and Beram Kayal put the Seagulls in control.

Merstham Cricket Club Grant

Merstham Cricket Club’s been awarded a grant to which has enabled them to repair the showers at their second ground The Ring on Earlswood Common.

The funding forms part of the England and Wales Cricket Trust Small Grant Scheme, which is supported by Waitrose.
The supermarket, who are the England Team sponsor, supported the Scheme by pledging £100 for every four or six scored across the entire home international summer in 2014.
The Waitrose donation, along with investment from Sport England and the England and Wales Cricket Trust, has allowed more local communities to benefit from refurbishments in cricket clubs.

Surrey Youth Games

Last week, young athletes from across the borough of Reigate and Banstead showed their sporting prowess in the annual Surrey Youth Games.

Over 2,000 children from across the eleven Surrey boroughs and districts took part in a weekend of sporting competition on the 20th and 21st of June at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

Around 180 children, aged seven to 16  and spread across 28 teams, represented Reigate & Banstead in a wide range of sports.

The Borough’s tally of medals included four Gold, four silver and one bronze.

Their impressive results included these medals:

  • Four gold medals – Senior Boccia, Touch Tennis, Junior Table Tennis, , Non-contact Boxing
  • Four Silver medals – Junior Squash, Judo Junior Girls , Judo Senior Girls, Senior Judo Boys
  • One bronze medal – Senior Badminton.

Surrey Cricketers Injured

Surrey’s T20 Blast game against Sussex was abandoned yesterday after Rory Burns and Moises Henriques collided on the field and were taken to hospital.
They needed on-pitch treatment at Arundel after trying to take a catch.

Three ambulances arrived on the outfield shortly after the collision and both players were taken away in the emergency vehicles about 45 minutes later.

Surrey tweeted later that Henriques had broken his jaw in three places and needed surgery, while Burns required stitches to head and facial injuries.

Umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Alex Wharf halted play following the incident in the 19th over of Sussex’s.

Crawley Town News

Former Crawley Town captain Josh Simpson has turned down the offer of a new contract from the League Two club.

The 28-year-old midfielder scored 14 goals in 165 appearances after joining the Reds from Peterborough in 2010.

Meanwhile Crawley have appointed former midfielder Jimmy Dack as their new assistant manager.

He joins the Reds after leaving Newport County and will now work alongside Mark Yates who was appointed Crawley manager last month on a two-year deal.
