Football Update

Crawley moved out of the League One relegation places after beating fellow strugglers Leyton Orient. Reds captain Izale McLeod converted a first-half penalty after he was brought down in the area by Luke O’Neill.

Crawley’s win, coupled with defeats for Crewe and Notts County, move them a point clear of the drop zone.

Elsewhere, in the Ryman League, East Grinstead Town suffered a 2 nil home defeat at the hands of Walton Casuals while Redhill drew 1 all in their home encounter with Sittingbourne.

Three Bridges also managed a 1 all away draw at Whitstable Town while South Park beat Ramsgate by 2 goals to 1.

The match ended 3 – 2 to The Reds but other results mean that they remain 3 points from safety.

Elsewhere, in the Ryman league, Merstham enjoyed a convincing 4 nil victory at home to Hythe Town, while Three Bridges also won 4 – 2 in their match against Walton & Hersham. South Park also had a good afternoon with a 3 nil away win at Chipstead. Not so good for East Grinstead Town who lost 2 – 1 at Sittingbourne and Redhill who narrowly lost 2 – 1 at Walton Casuals.

In league one, despite a bright start, Crawley Town slumped to a 2 -1 home defeat against Bristol City on Saturday afternoon. The Reds are now 2 points from safety without a win in their last 3 matches.
Elsewhere, in the Ryman League, Redhill drew 2 all in their home match with Carshalton Athletic. South Park and Merstham drew 1 all while East Grinstead Town went down 1 nil at home to Herne Bay and Three Bridges lost 3 – 1 at Whyteleafe.

Sussex batsman Rory Hamilton-Brown has announced his retirement at 27 after failing to recover from a wrist injury.

He picked up the injury at the beginning of last season and his last appearance was a Twenty20 match against Middlesex on 27 June.

Despite surgery and rehabilitation he has been forced to call time on his 10-year professional career.

And in Saturday’s football, Crawley Town just failed to take all 3 points as a late penalty from substitute Marc McNulty rescued a point for League One Sheffield United.The Reds have are now second from bottom.

Elsewhere in the Ryman League, Merstham lost by a single goal at home to East Grinstead Town and Three Bridges went down 4 – 3 to Hythe Town.

Better news for Redhill who managed a 2 all away draw at Tooting and Mitcham United. The match between South Park and Sittingbourne was postponed.
