The Inter Junior School Cross Country Race – Reigate

The inter Junior school cross country race between St Mathews, Sandcross, St Josephs, St Johns and Wray Common schools took place on the afternoon of Thursday 30th January on a very muddy Wray Common in Reigate.

The event was organised by Liz Micalowska from Wray Common School and approximately 300 children from year 3 to year 6 took part.

The event was absolutely fantastic, and although the parents supporting the event were certainly faced with “Mud” just about everywhere, the enjoyment on the childrens’ faces said it all. For some their first competitive race.

Each school raced in teams

Neil Munday was there:

Weekend Sport Review

Local Sport Review

A last gasp injury time goal at Rotherham robbed Crawley Town of all three points in their away league one tie on Saturday afternoon. The match ended 2 all with the Reds goals coming from Tubbs and Simpson.

Crystal Palace were dumped out of the FA Cup losing 2 -1 away at Wigan, paving the way for the Eagles to concentrate on their Premier League survival.

Redhill returned to action this week, but lost 3 -1 at Folkstone Invicta. Crawley Down Gatwick were hammered 4 – 1 at home to Burgess Hill Town, while Merstham had an excellent home result beating Eastbourne Town by 5 goals to nil. Finally, not such good news for Horley Town who were beaten 3 -1 at Colliers Wood.

Sussex Cricket Signing

Sussex have signed Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat as an overseas player for the NatWest T20 Blast tournament.

The 31-year-old has previously had three spells at Hove and is fifth on the all-time Twenty20 wicket-takers list with 219 scalps.

Arafat played for Sussex in 2006, 2009 and 2010 and was part of the Sharks side that won the Twenty20 Cup in 2009.

He has turned out for five different English counties – Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Lancashire and Somerset – and is the leading wicket-taker in the history of domestic Twenty20 in England.

Arafat, who has played three Tests, 11 one-day internationals and 13 T20 internationals, has appeared in the short format for club sides in Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh.

Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson said the deal had been in negotiation since October and went on to say that Arafat was a very experienced bowler who takes pressure well.
