The ‘Nicest Job in Britain’ is a charity campaign in its second year – helping charities to attract talent and showcase their work. The hunt is now on to find someone to help 40 charities over the course of a year.

Worth Park is a beautiful spot hidden in the Pound Hill are of Crawley. Recently Del Garland and Annie Whitmore invited Elizabeth Steven, a volunteer for the Worth Park Restoration Project, onto the show to tell us more about this fascinating area.

There was a genuine sadness around the Susy Radio studios this week as we heard that a well loved and long standing listener “Jean from Woodhatch” had passed away.
Jean had followed Susy since the early days of special events broadcasting right up until a few months ago when she was taken into hospital but even then we are told she kept on listening.
A huge Cliff Richard fan Jean would often call into the station and was noted for her wicked sense of humour and her love of music. Jean even gave Susy Radio a birthday cake on our first anniversary as a full time radio station.
Geoff Rogers, Programme Director and Presenter, paid tribute to Jean on Facebook, he wrote “Very sad news. Jean was one of the first people who rang the station when it started as an occasional broadcaster in the 90s. Always cheerful on the phone and cheered up my and other presenters days when she rang.”
Alan “Big Al” French said “Jean was one of our regular callers from the early days and I was always so pleased to have a chat with this wonderfully warm and friendly lady.
Jean will always be part of Susy to all of us who had the pleasure of knowing her.”
Susy DJ Bruce Montgomery remembered Jean with a smile as he remembered she was “Always a winner of any competition I ran, regardless of whether the answer was right or not :).”
Carlie and Marky B posted on Facebook saying “We will miss you Jean, ️Was always lovely to chat with you & we certainly always had plenty to chat about.”
Chrissy Muir wrote “Sleep in peace our beautiful, inspirational, funny and sweet Lady Jean XX”
In a poignant message Graham Foy noted that “Every station has extra special listeners like Jean and without them the station would be a sadder place.”
Jean’s son sent a message in which he thanked the Susy team for “Making her last few years fun as part of the Susy Radio family. She really loved you all.” As Board member Dave King said on social media quite simply “We all loved Jean.”
On Saturday 30th July Neil Munday dedicated his show to “Jean from Woodhatch” and played some clips of Jean calling in to his shows. You can listen to his tribute and to some of Jean’s contributions to the on air Susy Radio family here:
Councillor David Powell, The Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, holds the record as the oldest person in the world to do a Tandem High Altitude Low Opening (Halo) skydive from 30,000 feet (5.68 miles) in daylight hours. In 2014, at 78 years of age he broke the record which was previously held by Ray Woodcock from Essex, Woodcock was just 70 years old at the time of his jump. This August Cllr Powell is heading back to Memphis, USA to break his record again at the age of 80 years old but this jump will be at night during a full moon.
Listen as the Mayor describes what it feels like to freefall for over two minutes at speeds of around 300kph while battling to stop your arms being torn off your shoulders!
