Reigate and Banstead Writes competition launches

If you know any budding young writers check out David Jay’s  Afternoon Stroll chat with Kay Hymas about the launch of Reigate & Banstead Writes.

The story writing competition is open to all Year 5-9 students who go to school in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead. Kay, the competition organiser, explained that the stories have to be set in the local area and no longer the 1000 words.

There are prizes and entry forms are available from school libraries  (which should be the initial contact), from local libraries, from Waterstones or online at the Warwick School website. [ link: warwick.surrey.sch.uk/extra-curricular/rb-writes ].

The  closing date is 28 February 2019.

Chrissy meets ‘Sugoi-ne’

James and Lucie from local band ‘Sugoi-ne’ dropped into Susy Towers to visit the Chrissy Muir show for a chat, and to play live.

Formed for only 5 months, the pair are already accomplished artists in their own right.
Lucie was scouted by the ‘X Factor’ a few years ago (we are not surprised), and what an amazing voice!

James lives in Hookwood, Horley, and Chrissy heard about his musical talents whilst chatting to Stu, his Dad, out dog walking.

Christmas Carol Concert – 2018

This year’s Christmas Service comes from the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, in the historic borough of Bletchingley, East Surrey, and was recorded on Sunday, 23rd December, 2018.

The village contains a medieval castle and Bletchingley Place entered via the gate house at Place Farm occupied by Anne of Cleaves after her marriage to Henry the 8th was annulled. The medieval parish church in the Anglo–Saxon administrative division of Tandridge hundred dates back over 1000 years and is recorded in the Doomsday book under the ownership of Richard de Tonebridge. Bletchingley itself served higher status than that of the close by market town of Reigate up until the 14th century.

The service was held under candlelight within the medieval church, and led by the Reverend Sister Phaedra Pamphilon-Green, Rector of the Benifice of Bletchingley and Nutfield. The opening carol “Once in Royal Davids City” was led by 12 year old soloist, Sophie Thurston.

The service was recorded with permission of, and led by the Reverend Sister Phaedra Pamphilion-Green, Rector of the Benifice of Bletchingley and Nutfield.
