Gatwick Airport has been named as the worst airport for flight delays for the second year running according to new data from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Although the airport has seen an improvement in 2024 compared to 2023, delays still amount to an average of 23 minutes for flights.
A spokesperson said the airport had a “robust plan” to improve things further in 2025, including a new method to separate arriving aircraft.
Gatwick is the UKs second busiest airport with flights departing or arriving every 55 seconds”.
The data below from the CAA, shows the list of the top ten worst ranking airports in the UK, with Cardiff appearing in tenth position.
10 – Cardiff Airport
Average delays of 17 minutes and 36 seconds.
9 – Luton Airport
Average delays of 17 minutes and 42 seconds in 2024.
8 – Bournemouth Airport
Average delays of 17 minutes and 48 seconds.
7 – Edinburgh Airport
Average delays of 18 minutes and six seconds in 2024.
6 – Exeter Airport
Average delays of 15 minutes and 42 seconds at the airport.
5 – Teesside International Airport
Average delays of 19 minutes and six seconds.
4 – Stansted Airport
Average delays of 19 minutes and 36 seconds in 2024.
3 – Manchester Airport
Average delays of 20 minutes.
2 – Birmingham Airport
Average delays of 21 minutes and 18 seconds.
1 – Gatwick Airport
