Earlswood has been identified as the second highest location nationally on the rail network for heat related incidents that affected the greatest number of trains.
Network Rail says 2,275 trains were affected last year by buckled rails in Earlswood on their Sussex route.
To help reduce overheating, engineers are painting sections of railway tracks white this Spring in preparation for the hotter weather to come.
Network Rail says steel rails in direct sunshine can be as much as 20 degrees hotter than air temperature causing them to buckle which then leads to disruption for passengers. By painting parts of the rails white, they absorb less heat, reducing the risk of expansion.
