Tandridge District Council has announced that they support the proposal for three unitary councils in Surrey.
At a full Council meeting on Tuesday the local authority voted to endorse three unitary councils rather than the two proposed by Surrey County Council.
Councillors concluded it was the best chance to preserve local democracy, strengthen accountability and reflecting existing economic and community identities
The final proposal, which must be submitted to the government by tomorrow, is a response to the government’s plans to replace the two-tier system with unitary authorities.
