Proposals for local government reorganisation in Surrey were submitted to the Government by last Friday’s deadline.
Surrey County Council proposes two councils, East and West Surrey, in a plan which was jointly submitted with Elmbridge Borough and Mole Valley District Councils. It includes letters of support from local partners including police, health, fire, and business leaders.
Meanwhile Reigate and Banstead Borough Council supports three unitary councils in Surrey. Reigate and Banstead has also submitted a separate joint proposal with Crawley Borough Council to form a new unitary authority.
Tandridge District Council supports the proposal for three unitary councils, but strongly opposes the option with Crawley and feels this would leave the Tandridge District isolated.
The proposals had to be submitted on Friday in line with the accelerated programme of Local Government Reform in Surrey. This is a different timeline to West Sussex where the deadline for proposals is in September.
