Reigate and Banstead Borough Council has launched an ambitious programme to keep its publicly owned assets in local control after the Council itself is abolished in 2027. The move was agreed at a meeting of the full Council last Thursday.
Local groups and organisations are being invited to express their interest in taking over some of the assets. The community asset transfer programme will allow the council to transfer buildings and land such as sports pavilions and community halls to voluntary groups to manage them in the interests of local residents.
The first stage is to submit expressions of interest in any asset held by the Council; interested parties will be invited to submit a full bid if the asset is deemed suitable for transfer. Full details will be announced soon.
If you would like to register to be notified when full scheme details are published, or have questions on the process, please send an email to [email protected].
The twelve existing councils in Surrey will be replaced by two or three unitary authorities by April 2027.
