Prolific shoplifter jailed

A prolific shoplifter has been jailed over his latest offences.

Luke Wolf-England entered stores across Crawley and Horsham between August and October.

The offences were committed after he was issued with a community order by the courts in August after he admitted 38 offences across West Sussex.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court the 31-year-old, admitted a further 11 shop theft offences.

He has been jailed for nine months.

Surrey to become two new Unitary authorities

The government has confirmed the end of existing councils in Surrey as part of government plans on local government reorganisation.

Surrey County Council and 11 borough and district councils will be dissolved and merged into the two large authorities – East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council.

Once approved, the government will pass a law abolishing the existing councils and establish new structures with the start expected in April 2027.

Newquay-Gatwick passengers to face weeks of disruption

Passengers at Gatwick and Newquay airports are facing weeks of disruption following the news that Eastern Airways was on the brink of collapse.

Cornwall Council said there would be a “short-term loss of services” with Newquay to London Gatwick flights.

Council leaders said the airline’s contract for the route was already coming to an end and the process to find a new operator had started.

By-Election Results for the Tandridge District

Two by-elections took place in the Tandridge District last Thursday. 

Alan Schmidt of The Lingfield and Crowhurst Residents was elected as a Tandridge District Councillor for the Lingfield, Crowhurst and Tandridge Ward. 

Martin Redman of The Liberal Democrats was elected as Councillor for Westway in Caterham on the Hill; a gain from the Conservatives.

Local Football Results

Crawley Town won 2-1 over Fleetwood at the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday.  The Reds move up to 19th place in the League Two table after winning their last two games.

In the National League South, Horsham won 1-0 at home to Slough Town, extending their unbeaten league run to eight matches and taking them to fourth place in the table.  Dorking Wanderers lost 2-0 away to Farnborough. 

Three Bridges are top of the Isthmian South East division after their 2-1 win over Sittingbourne.  AFC Whyteleafe are in second place with an 8-0 victory over Crowborough AFC.
