Local Football Results

In League 2, Crawley Town lost 3-1 away to Cambridge United on Saturday.

Merstham and Three Bridges drew 1-1 at Moatside.  Three Bridges are in second place in the Isthmian League South East Division table.

Dorking Wanderers drew 1-1 away to Chelmsford City in the National League South.

Dorking Wanderers Women are out of the FA Cup losing 1-0 to Bromley yesterday at Hayes Lane.

In the South East Counties Women’s Football League, South Park Reigate lost 9-3 away to Jersey Bulls.

Crawley Town sporting director resigns

Crawley Town’s sporting director Tobias Phoenix has left the club by mutual consent.

The former director of football operations at Bolton Wanderers joined Crawley during last season, when the Reds were relegated from League One.

It is the latest change in a turbulent year for the club, after former co-owner Preston Johnson resigned in July over the club’s transfer strategy.

Crawley play Walsall in League Two on Saturday.

Declan Rice Training at Merstham FC

Arsenal and England midfielder, Declan Rice, has been training over the Summer …. at Merstham Football Club. 

Instead of joining the Arsenal squad for training in Spain he has been following an individual training plan at Merstham’s Moatside ground. 

In a video message on social media, Declan Rice thanked the club for letting him use the pitch over the past few weeks and said he hopes Merstham gets promoted this season.

Football: FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round

The football season has started for many of our local teams.

After relegation last season Crawley Town began their League Two campaign with a 3-0 loss away to Grimsby on Saturday.

The Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup got underway at the weekend.  Three Bridges, South Park Reigate, and AFC Whyteleafe are all through to the next round.  After a goalless draw at the New Defence, Horley Town will replay their match away at Corinthian tomorrow evening.

Susy Radio Newsreader Completes Firewalk In Aid Of Surrey Hospice

A Surrey based hospice turned up the heat on Bonfire Night!  St Raphael’s hosted a firewalking event to raise funds to help run the care facility and asked people to brave their fears and take the challenge.  Susy Radio’s newsreader David Walker was one of 28 fundraisers who took part in the event facing burning temperatures of over 360 degrees Celsius:  

Cliff Mann who runs firewalking activities from the organisation Time 4 Change spoke to the firewalkers as the the last participants completed the challenge:

The hospice was hoping to raise eight thousand pounds on the night but by the start of the evening they had already reached eleven thousand pounds.  Samantha Bourne is Events Fundraising Manager at St Raphael’s:
