A report on Brook House and Tinsley house has found “inhumane” conditions at the immigration removal centre.

Representatives of the Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre independent monitoring board said that, despite improvements, some people at the immigration centre, were having their dignity and rights undermined, including being locked up for 12 hours a day.

The report, also found a “disturbingly high” number of children are being detained there, which was subject to a public inquiry in 2017.

A Home Office spokesperson said it welcomed the IMB’s feedback, and is setting up an independent immigration appeals authority which it says will speed up claims.
