New Urgent Treatment Centre for East Surrey Hospital

Plans have been announced for a new Urgent Treatment Centre at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.
The purpose built centre will sit alongside the existing Emergency Department creating a single front door for people with non life-threatening emergencies. The hospital is one of only a handful in the region without a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre. It aims to offer faster assessment, diagnosis and treatment in one place, and getting more people home the same day with the help of the newly expanded Same Day Emergency Care services.
The new two storey building which is backed by £8.6 million of capital investment from NHS England, is at the final design stage. Subject to approval, construction is expected to start this summer with the service opening in the second half of next year.

The Crawley Museum Is Celebrating British Caledonian Airways (BCal)
The Crawley Museum is delighted to celebrate the story of British Caledonian Airways (BCal), one of the most recognisable names in British aviation and an airline closely linked to the SUSY area, Crawley & Gatwick Airport. Founded in 1961, BCal grew to become the UK’s leading independent airline, connecting Britain with destinations across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America. For many local people, BCal was not just an airline but a major employer and a proud part of Crawley’s aviation heritage.
Martin Stone from the Crawley Museum joins Clive Hilton on SUSY Sunday Brunch (hear below) to explain how this celebration explores the people, aircraft and identity that made BCal such a fond memory for so many. From its famous Lion Rampant logo and tartan-inspired branding to its reputation for high-quality customer service, BCal left a lasting mark on British aviation before becoming part of British Airways in 1988.
The exhibition has already attracted significant interest and runs till the 28th March **NOW EXTENDED TO 18th APRIL** and is open Thursday to Saturday 10.30am to 4pm at the Crawley Museum.
Sussex Police Supports National Firearm Amnesty

Sussex Police is joining other forces in the country in a four-week Firearms Amnesty for five types of BRUNI-manufactured side or top venting blank firers or TVBFs. Tests by the National Crime Agency and policing have shown some BRUNI models are readily convertible and are therefore illegal.
The amnesty will take place from today until 27th February.
During the amnesty, those handing in this type of firearm will not face prosecution for illegal possession and will not have to give their details, although its history will be checked for evidence of use in crime.
People can hand in the specified blank firers over the counter at designated police stations including Caterham which is open daily, and Crawley Police station which is open from Monday to Saturday.
Anyone unable to travel to one of these locations can call the police on 101 to request it be picked up from their home.
Anyone wishing to take part in the amnesty has been urged to use common sense when transporting their TVBF to one of the chosen stations – by placing them in a labelled bag or box and making their way straight there.
