Crawley Police Officers Assaulted

A man has been charged after two police officers were assaulted in Crawley on Friday.

Police had been called to Five Acres in Northgate following a report that a woman was being assaulted. When officers attended. They were met by a 34 year old man who was extremely hostile and violent towards them.

A female officer suffered a broken wrist and her male colleague bruising and a swelling to his eye.

Darren Josephs of Five Acres, Crawley has been charged with three counts of assault.

He remains in custody and was due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday last (16 May).

Caterham Burglary – Men Charged

Two men have been charged with a total of 14 offences following an aggravated burglary in Caterham on Friday.

19 year old Jeremy Bird from Whyteleafe and Jason Frances who is 18 years old and from Caterham, have both been charged with threatening a witness, affray, and three counts of possession of an offensive weapon. Bird has also been charged with four other offences.

Both appeared at South East Surrey Magistrates Court in Redhill on Saturday. Frances pleaded not guilty to all charges and Bird pleaded guilty to most charges but not guilty to threatening a witness and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

Both men were given conditional bail and will appear at Guildford Crown Court on Friday 10th June.

Gatwick Training To Combat Human Trafficking

Gatwick Airport will step up its efforts to combat human trafficking, child exploitation and modern day slavery.

It plans to increase training of front line staff and continue partnership work with key organisations involved in stamping out human trafficking.

The announcement follows the second Safer Gatwick partnership event, which outlined what staff can do to spot the warning signs.

Surrey Cricketer Out Due To Injury

Surrey’s Zafar Ansari is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a thumb injury.

The 24-year-old all-rounder was injured during the County Championship match with Durham at the Oval earlier this month.

Scans show Ansari has suffered “moderate soft tissue damage” to his left thumb, but has not sustained any ligament damage.

He missed the defeat at Yorkshire this week and Surrey say the left-armer will be out for “the immediate future”.

Ansari was forced off the field on day three against Durham after being hit while bowling.
