Less Burglaries in Sussex

There were 930 fewer victims of burglary in Sussex in 2015.

This 11% reduction is due to Sussex Police’s commitment in tackling home burglaries as well as more robust sentencing for those convicted.

Much use was made of Neighbourhood watch schemes and the monitoring of people known to be prolific burglars.

Flytipping Conviction Redhill

A woman from Dormansland has been found guilty of flytipping.

Redhill Magistrates’ Court fined Tammy Lewis £100 and ordered her to pay Tandridge District Council £200 in compensation, together with other costs of over £500.  

In April last year, flytipped building waste and packaging was found in Ledgers Road in Warlingham.  

The woman was convicted using evidence from CCTV and vehicle documentation.

Whyteleafe Accident

A serious collision took place in Salmons Lane in Whyteleafe on Saturday.

Roads were closed in the area after a blue Ford Focus collided with a lamp post and overturned. The five occupants of the car were taken to hospital. Two of the passengers had serious injuries.

Anyone who saw the collision should contact Surrey Police on 101.

Crawley Young Person Council Elections

Young people in Crawley are invited to get involved in The Crawley Young Persons Council elections.

Crawley Borough Council asks that people between the ages of 11 and 25 play a bigger role in their community. The Young Persons Council will be involved in various projects this year including a Youth Music Festival and Youth Question Time.

The elections take place between 7th and 20th March.

You can collect a nomination form from your local school or the Town Hall, or you can complete a form online at crawley.gov.uk/ypc.

Football Update

Crawley Town had a disappointing 2-1 defeat on Saturday against Yeovil at Huish Park. Two second-half goals condemned them to a fifth defeat in the last seven League 2 games. The Reds scored with seven minutes to go but couldn’t find an equaliser.

In the Ryman League, Merstham won 3 nil at Farnborough. Three Bridges drew 1 all away to Whyteleafe. South Park’s match against Corinthian Casuals also ended in a 1 all draw so South Park remain in 14th place, one place ahead of Three Bridges. Towards the bottom of the table, East Grinstead Town lost away to Walton Casuals with the final score 2-1.

Elsewhere, Horley Town won 3 nil at home to Cove.
