Fanny’s Farm Shop

A pinnacle of the local Merstham community has been lost.

Fanny Maiklem of ‘Fanny’s Farm Shop’ passed away on Friday (June 5th).

Described as a ‘treasure’ Fanny created the farm shop in Markedge Lane in 1979.

Reigate Town Centre Fight

A fight broke out in Reigate town centre on Monday (8 June) afternoon.

Officers were called to the incident in the High Street shortly before 5 o’clock. Five men were arrested on suspicion of affray.

One man was taken to hospital with minor injures.

The investigation into the fight continues. Police are looking at CCTV footage and asking for anyone who witnessed the event to dial 101.

Crawley Cycle Ride

Families in Crawley are being invited to get on their bikes.

As part of National Bike Week Crawley Borough Council are holding a cycle ride on Saturday 20th June.

It starts at Oriel High School in Maidenbower with registrations from 10 o’clock in the morning. Experienced leaders then guide participants to Crawley Down via Route 21, East Grinstead Station, the Bluebell steam train, and returning at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

Out of Control Bonfire

Firefighters were called to an out of control bonfire in Crawley last Thursday (4 June)

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire in the front garden of a house in Kelmscott Rise, Broadfield around 4pm. They managed to extinguish the bonfire within 30 minutes.

The service took the opportunity to remind people that you can’t get rid of household waste by burning it if it’s likely to cause pollution or noxious fumes. It’s far better to recycle or compost where possible – the local council is there with advice should you need any.

Reigate Assault

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with head injuries following an alleged assault in Lesbourne Road, Reigate, around 10-45pm last Saturday (6 June).

The man claimed he’d been threatened by a group of around seven men, described as Asian and in their 20s.

A number of officers, including the police helicopter and dog units, were sent to the scene and searched two addresses.
