The widening work on the M25 to create a smart motorway between Kent and Surrey has finally been completed and the hard shoulder will now be used as a lane.
The Highways Agency has said the move will improve journey times and provide a boost for business and the economy.
About 140,000 drivers use the M25 between junction 5 at Sevenoaks and 7 for the M23 each day.
