Surrey Funding Gap

Schools in Surrey face a shortfall in funding of over £50 million.

David Hodge, Leader of Surrey County Council, revealed yesterday a shortfall to deliver the 3,000 extra school places for next September.

Mr Hodge believes funding from the government will only be £30 million, whereas over £80 million is required to ensure every Surrey child gets a school place.

The authority had to find an additional £30 million on top of government funding to provide enough school places this year.
